Image Transfer Series
I create each of these photographic art works using a process known as image transfer, starting with a professional quality archival print of my original image which I then transfer by hand onto a wood artist panel so that only the pigments from the print are left on the wood surface. Because this process is unpredictable and the image never transfers perfectly, each one I make has a unique set of subtle imperfections, mostly around the edges, that give the work a slightly distressed or vintage look but also means that no two pieces are exactly alike. In addition, because the paler areas of colour are somewhat transparent the unique birch wood grain of each panel subtly shows through, giving each image a slightly organic look as well as a golden cast from the natural colour of the wood.
Ready to hang (no framing required) - panel is 1.5" deep, with clear solid wood sides and birch veneer ply front. Aside from wood sides and cross supports panel backs are hollow, for both lightness and ease of hanging - simply rest bottom of top back edge on two level screws (1.75"-2" in length).
All my images are professionally printed using Epson Ultrachrome Archival Pigment inks, tested to last a lifetime. For additional protection as well as a soft burnished finish I also coat the sides and top of each panel with a hand-rubbed artist's wax. Each limited edition artwork also comes with my personal certificate of authenticity as well as my official artist's seal affixed to the back.
